| The year 2000 has been particularly
active. The ten-day Circom Journalism Workshop held in Potsdam in
May was the biggest we have organised, attended by nearly 50 journalists
and technicians from 21 different countries. The young journalists
taped and edited more than 30 sequences and news features, and recorded
two half-hour programmes in the studios of ORB. (You can see Real
Video of one of these programmes on this site)
A Circom seminar on Ethnic Minority Broadcasting,
held at the start of the "At Home" Festival, hosted by
TVP Krakow in Poland in September, had 28 participants. The seminar
concentrated on TV coverage of Roma communities, and awarded a prize
for the best magazine programme on ethnic minority affairs. (See
the Circom Regional guidelines on "Television Reporting of
Minority Issues" on this website. Booklets are available from
the secretariat).
In November, a senior seminar for Newsroom Editors-in-Chief
from central and eastern European countries was hosted by France
3 Alsace in Strasbourg. Participants were able to see the European
Parliament in plenary session during the seminar, which concentrated
on newsroom management and new technology.
In 1999, the two main journalism workshops were held
in Cavtat Croatia, and Szeged Hungary.
