The task of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is to contribute
to the promotion of free opinion, to provide listeners and viewers
with diversified and factual information, to promote cultural development
and participate in public and cultural life.
SBC is divided by linguistic regions: RTSI - Italian Language Swiss
Radio and Television (with 3 Radio and 1 TV channels), RTSR - French
Language Swiss Radio and Television (with 3 Radio and 1 TV channels)
and SF DRS - German and Romansch Language Swiss Radio and Television
(with 3 Radio and 2 TV channels).
TSI started its activities in Lugano in 1961 and its broadcasting
area covers the entire Swiss territory (7 million people) as well
as some regions of neighbouring countries in Italy, France and Germany.
The 13.000 annual broadcasting hours are devided as follow: news
and information 2.000 hours, cultural programmes and documentaries
655, religion 57, operas and theatre 216, entertainment 301, programmes
for children and young people 387, fiction 2.700, sports 1.884,
other reports and special programmes 4.730.
2.220 hours are home produced, 8.100 hours are aquired in Europe
and US and about 2.700 houres are repeated.
TSI annual programme budget is 8.100 million SFR (5 million SFR
comming from sponsorship).
