"RTV Slovenia is a public, non-profit-making broadcasting organisation,
performing radio and television broadcasting activities in order
to suit public requirements that are statutorily defined" states
the special Law of the Republic of Slovenia.
It is therefore an organisation subject to public law as required
by common European standards. RTV Slovenia is not the only radio
and TV broadcasting company in the country, but it is certainly
the biggest and the most important. It is financed primarily by
subscription, which represents up to 65% of total income (the rest
is acquired through advertising). Because of this the organisation
is obliged to offer programmes of general appeal, encourage cultural
creativity and identity, produce and present programmes acceptable
to all target groups and minorities and ensure that regions are
equally represented. All this is achieved by increasing the number
of external collaborators, co-operation with independent production
groups and production within the company.

The management of the
company is public, the Council of RTV Slovenia consists of 25 members,
5 appointed by the national parliament, 3 by the staff of RTV SLO,
2 by both minorities (Italians and Hungarians) and 15 by bodies and
associations of civil societies (universities, churches, journalists,
actors, athlets, trade unions etc.)
Members of the Council and managers cannot be champions of any
political party.
With the law, its statute and regulations, RTV Slovenia is bound
to objectivity and a well balanced attitude to pluralism of opinions
and values.
All the most important activities are co-ordinated at the level
of general management. The development strategy is also planned
at this level, while current programme activities are based on the
policy of media independence.
RTV Slovenia is a member of the EBU and plays an active role in
many international organisations and consortia. It is also one of
the founders of co-operation among different radio and TV broadcasters
in the region of the Alps, the Danube and the Adriatic, and is active
in Central Europe and Mediterranean as well. RTV Slovenia is more
than open to all kinds of international co-operation and co-production.
Besides its production and media specialised correspondence centres
in the country, RTV Slovenia also has a joint network of correspondents
abroad, in Italian, Austrian and Hungarian towns near the border
and in New York, Moscow, Brussels, Vienna, Bonn etc.
Important joint activities promote relations with Slovene emigrants
all over the world and inform the public abroad.
RTV Slovenia contributes to satellite broadcasting by active co-operation
with foreign programmes and by leasing satellite channels.
