Under the Audiovisual Law, which has been adopted by Moldovaís
Parliament in November 1995 and is being in force since January
1996, Teleradio-Moldova is a public broadcasting company run by
the President and includes Radio, Television and other services.
Television-Moldova (TVM) started its activity in 1958 with one
channel. Now it broadcasts 15 hours per day from 7.00 to 24.00 with
a break at midday. On weekends it starts broadcasting at 8.00 and
finishes at 24.00 without any breaks.
Television covers 96% of Moldovaís territory as well as
the boarding areas of Romania and Ukraine with approximately 8 million
viewers in all.
The broadcasting language is Romanian but it also broadcasts in
the languages of the national minorities (Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian,
Gagauzian, Jewish-Ivrit)
85% of TVMís fonding is provided by the state budget, while
15% come from TV commercials. TVM produces all types of programmes
with a special accent on information (news, current affairs, documentaries)
and entertainment.
The television is run by the Director General nominated by the
Parliament at the proposal of the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual
Media, which includes 9 members nominated by the Parliament (3),
Presidency (3), and Government (3).
Thanks to the earth station ìMolkis-1î, in operation
since 1994, we can rebroadcast any international event or programme
received via satellite. TVM has widespread international relations
with other TV public services.
