ERT 3, the third Hellenic State Radio and Television Channel is
an offspring of the union of the two regional broadcasting stations,
ET 1 and ET 2, which were operating individually in Thessaloniki
since 1978.
In September 1988, ET 3 was established as the only regional branch
TV station of ERT S.A. In 1989 the programme of the channel grows
from test broadcasting to regular and lasting 35 hours per week.
In 1990 ET 3 was broadcasting 42.5 hours per week, whereas the
major portion of its programme consisted of internal production.
During the same year (August 1990) all TV studios were lodged in
the same building (Leoforos Stratou) and all three radio programmes
under the general name Radio Station of Macedonia were being gathered
in the building of the Georgiki Scholi area in Thessaloniki.
In 1994, according to a legislative regulation, ERT 3 was declared
the autonomous branch of ERT S.A. with administrative, financial
and programming independence.
With this status, the annual budget is subsidized by 10% of the
annual budget reciprocal fee, which is detracted by all electricity
consumers and reaches the amount of 11.738.811 Euros per year for
ERT 3.
Since January 2002 the program is broadcast around the clock.
Three ERT studios are operating in Northern Greece cities Florina
and Komotini and in the Aegean island Mytilini, while new studios
are to be launched in Ioanina and Kozani.
ET3 following an alternative format includes in its program entertainment
shows for young people, arts and technology, modern figures of expression
and creativity. At the same time through the information dept has
launched special programs for politics, economy and int’l events.
There is more emphasis on rented European productions (67%) while
films and documentaries on topics of broader social interest and
shows for children and education and music programs are complimenting
the daily schedule.
Since January 2003 there’s an intensive production of documentaries,
