CURRENT Coproductions: THE FIRST
HUNDRED DAYS OF THE EURO
Short Description
On January 1, 2002 the new European currency will start to be operational.
The Europeans will consider this day as the day of inauguration
of the Euro, comparable to the day of inauguration of an, let’s
say, American President. In the case of institutions of e.g. American
Presidents, it is customary to cover the first hundred days of office,
and to try to draw conclusions on success or non-success. SWR proposes
to handle the first hundred days of the Euro in the same way. TV
companies in different European countries, member countries of the
Euro, should cover the experiences made with the new European currency
:
Is the Euro, after its first operational weeks,
more widely accepted as it is now, e.g. in Germany ? How did the
different stages of those first weeks work out (exchanging of old
currencies into the Euro, change of consumer good prices, etc..)?
How quickly will the 112 different Euro coins spread over Europe
? What happened to the old coins and paper monies ?
The co-production should reach its peak on April
10, 2002, day hundred of the then existing Euro with broadcasting
on that day or around that day.
Latest development
SWR proposes to co-produce in the framework of its weekly programme.
Forms of cooperation and length may be discussed, the concept is
to follow „ordinary“ people experiencing the Euro and of course
in this case, it must be co-produced on short notice. Three countries
facing the Euro may be chosen among cr.
